It is well written, covering the history of jeans from their invention through to today's high end fashion jeans.The history of jeans is covered in chapters that each spans several decades. In later chapters, some of the social aspect of jeans is evaluated as well, including such phenomena as smuggling into Eastern European Bloc countries during the 70s and 80s, moving of manufacturing to low wage countries, and the problems associated with boot legged jeans.The book is copiously illustrated with photographs and reproductions of old advertising material.This is a great book, for its intended age, at a look at the history and social facets of blue jeans. I would recommend it for any student with interest in the subject matter.

Really glad we took this with us. Good recommendations for sightseeing and restaurants in St. Thomas and St. John. The sometimes confusing roads and lack of signage messed up some of our driving objectives, so inclusion of a few maps for the attractions would have helped; for the most part the recommendations were useful and up to date.

This was a very even handed book full of valuable insights on the war on terror. Mr Morell comes across as an even handed proffessional CIA officer, utterly dedicated to our country and a first hand witness to many important events, decisions and programs which have shaped the war on terror. He was President Bush's daily briefer for the first year of his term, and was in fact the briefer on Aug 6 date of the famous PDB that democrats want you to believe should have prevented 9-11 if only Bush would have taken it seriously. In point of fact the memo on that day had almost zero intelligence value in regards to what , when and where and was instead a general declaration that AQ wanted to attack us. Yeah no s*** Sherlock.Morell addresses the failure of the intell community to understand the nature of the WMD situation in the run up to the Iraq war. He has a great chapter on how the intelligence which help locate OBL was developed and how President Obama managed the process which lead to the decision to conduct the Abottobad raid.He also has a chapter on the Senate report about the CIA detention and interrogation program. He really rips the report for inaccuracies, leaps of logic, not well thought out conclusions, and bias. He believes the staffers who wrote the report , wrote what they thought their bosses (democrat Senators) wanted to conclude rather than where the evidence should have lead them. He enumerates many errors of fact, errors of logic and errors of context rife througout the report. He asks and attempts to answer 4 questions about the Enhanced Interrogation Tactics (EITs ) used by the CIA on a limited number of prisoners. Was it legal or was it torture? Was it necessary or not? Was it effective? Was it the right thing to do or not? Reading this chapter gives the reader a better understanding of the whole issue than the deeply flawed Senate report ever could.In a chapter that liberals will run with , he recounts the history of the Benghazi attack and lays to rest in my mind the idea that the CIA colluded with the political side of the Obama operation to make it seem like the video was the cause of the attack when at the time of the attack the CIA believed differently. In point of fact the CIA initially believed that the series of attacks in Benghazi that night (there were 3) were not heavily preplanned and that the intitial demonstration was influenced by earlier embassy breach in Cairo which was a result of the video. Although the CIA now believes that elements of the Benghazi attack was a planned terror event, it's probably time for republicans to stop the investigations of Benghazi - there is no there there.I like this book and I like the author. He's no idealogue, I would have no idea whether he is a democrat or republican. He admired both Bush and Obama. In short he's dedicated public service that the country was lucky to have working for us keeping us safe.

Mike Morell in The Great War of our Time Fighting Terrorism from Al-Qaeda to ISIS offers his reflections on his time as a high level intelligence official for the CIA. These types of books are so hard to rate because while readers of one political persuasion will read this book and think Mike Morell Great Guy, while the other side will call him a rationalizer who is out to justify the failings of his own agency on 9-11 and other events. Not everything is so cut and dry. Mike Morrell is making his recollection of events in this book, his credibility and reasons should be read and evaluated by the individual reader. How do I say “Your recollections are wrong”? Last time I checked I was not presidential briefer on 9-11 or later Deputy Director of the CIA.Where I will couch my criticism is that while the information about meetings and events is interesting, I am not sure that we learn terribly much new or get beyond a surface treatment of the big issues until about the midway point (page 150 or so). I don’t think we are stretching for George Bush is a nice guy or Leon Panetta is boisterous, all that can be gleamed from other sources like interviews. Where the book picks up is the Bin Laden raid, Ben Ghazi, War on Terror tactics, etc. This is where Mike Morell is his most forceful and impassioned. If only the book had started out with that level of force.A good piece of political/autobiographical work

The potential reader of this book should be aware that it probably represents the official, unclassified history of CIA’s counter-terrorism operations from 1998 to 2014. Mike Morell, the books principal author, is a veteran of CIA’s Directorate of Intelligence. He also was part of the senior CIA hierarchy during most of this period. So this book really represents the “war on terror” as seen from a CIA management perspective. This means the book is more big picture than detailed oriented and that it often strives to protect CIA’s institutional image. For this reason Morell is at pains to fuzz over the many controversial issues and events that have plagued CIA during this period such as Iraqi WMD Programs, enhanced interrogations (AKA torture), and the tragedy at Fort Chapman (Khost). Still it is quite an interesting book that shows (sometimes if you read between the lines) how the inner mechanisms of CIA management actually work.Also the book does provide significant insights such as Morell’s clear and plausible account of the tragic events that occurred in Benghazi (Libya). Since this event is still been thrashed about in the U.S. Congress, Morell’s version is quite relevant. So his disgraceful treatment at the hands of congressmen who clearly let their of hatred of the Obama administration override their judgment and in some cases their rationality.The most significant chapter of this book actually does not have to do with history, but with the future (Chapter 13, “The Long War Ahead”). In it Morell offers his informed assessment of the threat posed by Islamic Extremism in the form of al Qaeda, ISIS (ISIL), Boko Haram, and similar groups. In this chapter he provides the information on these groups sufficient for the U.S. and its allies to develop a real counter terrorist strategy.This book is well worth purchasing and pondering.

After all California was the place of plenty and fifty years ago we had plenty of fledgling motorcycle clubs. For the month of March, we at Motorcycle Fiction would like to present to you the story of Tobie Gene Levingston, the reigning President of the East Bay Dragons M C, an all-black all male motorcycle club for over 40 years.“Soul On BikesThe East Bay Dragons MC and the Black Biker Set” Tobie starts this books in the present time. He has two club brothers dead and an invisible enemy telling him he has to cease and desist. No wearing your colors. He leaves the Club house to think. He remembers the story of a man who had to Pee. I read this book when it first came out, and I've read it repeatedly over the past four years. I just put it down again last night. This is a fascinating and well-written walk through the Black Biker Set (I ride) and it's a sad reality that no other books like it have come along.I want to know more about how Mr. Levingston's family dealt with his lifestyle. I want to know more about how American politics factored into their world. I want to know about how and why the Dragons chose their preferred styles of motorcyles over the years. It's reasonably well known that Bay Area Hells Angels generally prefer a certain type of bike while the Dragons are drawn to a different style. I'd like to know the philosophies behind their chosen machines.And, on a deeper level, I want to know more about the other legendary Black clubs out there. This isn't necessarily a job for Mr. Levingston but for historians and publishers. I want to see more books like this. There are videos out there detailing the Wheels of Soul and another entitled "Glory Road" which is more general. Both are great documents and more are being produced. But where are the written histories to accompany this excellent overview of one of the premier Black clubs?For potential readers, you can't go wrong with this book. If you enjoy biker books, this one is unique. If you enjoy Black history, again, this is a unique entry. And if you just want to read something off the beaten path, you can't go wrong here.

First off i never knew that much bout the East Bay Dragons, altho im from the Town(oakland) ive seen them but never knew the history to them so i decided to get this book to learn a lil mo about them, and woow was i amazed about how much there was to know about them and their history and the founder and the length of time they've been around. Honestly this is one of the best books ive read in a long time!! if you have any interest in motorcyle clubs history such as ones from the East Bay besides the Hells Angels this is the book to get!!!!! Super interesting!!! Gene Toby is a legend in my eyes now!!! Much mo respect for the East Bay Dragons after reading this book!!! A huge part of Oakland history!!! If you want to learn about another huge part of Oakland history then read this!!! couldn't put the book down it was that good!!! Much respect to the East Bay Dragons!!! Honestly if you are living or from the Town you should read this book!!! Even if you are from another city in the East Bay you should read this book!!!

Good Read......If you like motorcycles and black Americana, add this book to your collection. Basically it's about one of the first black motorcycle clubs in this country, their trials and tribulations. The cost of the book was fair, delivery was fast and it makes for good reading.

Most of the african american based clubs usually have their beginings in the late 60's and early 70's. Being in an M/C myself that has its beginings in the later part of the 80's , I figured this book would be rich in history and perspective. I hate reading novels, but this book gripped me and I read the whole thing in 2 days. I'm not really good at book comments, but I will say this is a must read book if you are in a M/C,and should be a required read especially if you are in an african american based M/C. This book has left a lasting inspirational inpression on me as a motorcyclist and as a president of a M/C myself. I've been pushing this on my members and other friends. I dont want to sound pro-black in my review. But the book de-bunks alot of myths about african americans and their spot in the motorcycle community. This book has giving me a sense of pride and gratitude towards clubs that paved the way for a guy like me to ride my chopper and fly my colors without fear of police brutality or revival racial M/C beefs. White, black, or inbetween. THIS IS A GOOD BOOK, go out it read it.

I am currently two-thirds done with this book. It covers the history of the East Bay Dragons MC, one of the well known black motorcycle clubs to this day. There isn't much in this genre, about the black biker set overall, and this is a must own for anyone that is interested in the black mc history. Well written and very readable.

This was the book that made me want to be a computer programmer. When I read it, I had no knowledge of programming beyond a little Pascal, and rudiments of C.It had a massive impact on me. It consumed me, to the point where I had difficulty finishing assignments for my classes (I did not study CS as an undergrad). What the book does is give you a vocabulary and knowledge about programming that is hard to find anywhere else.The text, the examples and exercises, have a mathematical flavor, and that may turn off many potential readers, who would rather gadget around than find elegant solutions for the 8-queens puzzle or efficient algorithms to compute Fibonacci numbers.I've lent this book to several friends who were interested in learning to program, and in all cases they have returned it to me, saying it went over their heads.There seem to be two camps in computer programming:- the gadgeteers, who want to hook devices together and make them do fun things- the scientists, who appreciate computing as a medium in itselfThis book is for the second type.

Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs is one of those much admired, frequently discussed, oft purchased but rarely read classics. It's not an easy read: It took me four tries to get through it.But it's worth the effort: By the time you are done you will know about imperative programming, functional programming, meta programming, lazy data structures and everything in between.This is one book that should be on every programmer's list.

I have only worked part of the way through the book, but it is one of the best books I've had the pleasure of learning from. It has an academic mathematical flavor to it, and the material is fairly dense; but the authors are masterful teachers and the exercises are very effective. Scheme is a fascinating language. At first it is uncomfortable to look at, especially if you're used to more mainstream languages. But once you get acclimated, you begin to see the beauty and raw power it holds. I recommend using the Racket IDE with the SICP extension when working through the book.

You need it, too. I won't pretend to have more useful insight into the art and craft of programming, or into SICP's relationship to it, than Paul Graham or Peter Norvig- if you want to know which reviews to trust, look these cats up.The discussion in the reviews usually concludes that this is the book that separates the computer scientists from the mere programmers. There is a definite logic to this. If you want a book that will have you churning out code that does something helpful in half an hour(because you don't think the several ways to calculate the Fibonacci Sequence are helpful), by all means, pick up Learning Perl or just read the Python documentation. They are great tools. If, however, you want to tool up on problem-solving technique a whole level or three higher up, SICP is for you. The Wizard Book is about learning to think better.Here is where I diverge from the idea that this book is for only computer scientists, though. I am an artist, graduated from college with a BA in art, going to graduate school for an MFA. SICP is one of the books that changed how I work and think. It will make you a better programmer if you read (and reread (and reread)) it in the same way that learning Latin will make you understand language itself in a whole new way. I use ideas from SICP constantly, to design software, but also to design staircases. The book is slow-going, no doubt about it, but you'll have a whole new mental toolset at the end.One caveat- this book is freely distributed in its entirety on MIT's website. I still bought a copy, though: who knows how long this internet thing will last, but SICP is going to be relevant forever.

Several real-world examples are used: a picture language, a circuit simulator, a compiler and a PROLOG-like pattern matching language.To get a flavor of this book, search for "SICP Lecture 1a" in Google Video. It's the first of 20 lectures delivered by the authors of the book in 1986. If you decide to purchase the book, use it in conjunction with these lectures to get the complete SICP experience. You will come out of a smarter, wiser software engineer.Also, how often do you see visionary computer scientists like Peter Norvig and Paul Graham give 5 stars to a book?

I've worked through the first three chapters of exercises, and they are challenging and fun. I'm learning scheme so that I can get better at functional programming in general, mostly in Clojure and Javascript. Scheme is a perfect "teaching language", though, and I think that this book should be any aspiring programmer's first introduction to programming before they even touch a compiled language.
