Chapter OneA Call for FreedomLeinad entered Nyland wearing the garb of a knight and mounted on a white stallion namedFreedom. He stopped at the drawbridge and took in the splendor of the majestic castle Pyron Mid. The gate towers stood tall as if to proclaim it an impenetrable fortress that no army in the kingdom could ever hope to seize. If Fairos were to fall, it would be for one reason only: The King wanted it. Such was the case, and so it was that Leinad was chosen to accomplish the impossible. Unsure of the future but obedient to and confident in the King, Leinad was willing to be the King’s sword. And so Leinad had prepared himself to challenge the mightiest force in the entire kingdom. In his heart he knew the King was with him. The moments passed, and Leinad’s stillness began to draw attention. Normally a visiting nobleman would cross the drawbridge and announce himself to the gate guards. Leinad waited beyond the threshold, a clear message of insult never before witnessed at Pyron Mid. The keeper of the gate called for another guard, and after a short exchange between the two, he called down to Leinad. “Sir, state your name and your intentions. We shall herald your arrival to Lord Fairos.” Leinad paused before speaking. “My message is for Fairos only.” Slaves, overseers, and guards within listening distance stopped and gazed at Leinad in growing curiosity. “Lord Fairos is not expecting visitors, and he will not come dancing to your whims, sir,” the guard replied. “I suggest you depart at once.” “My message is from the King, and I will wait here until Fairos hears it!” The gatekeeper and the other guard exchanged words again, and the guard disappeared. Time passed, and Leinad continued to wait. He suspected that Fairos was in no hurry to respond and was sending his own message by his delay. A general movement of people toward the front of the castle was evident as word of Leinad’s arrival spread. A group of slaves under the close watch of an overseer was returning to the castle with a supply of bricks. As they passed, an adolescent boy caught Leinad’s eye. Leinad smiled with compassion at the young lad, whose face revealed the weariness and subjection of a slave without hope. In a moment of transformation, the lad’s face brightened in hope and disbelief. He turned to the slave next to him, and Leinad could hear the excitement in his voice. “It’s Leinad!” he exclaimed.“Leinad’s dead, boy,” the man retorted. “And this man’s a dead man too.” The man turned to look, but the overseer shouted and cracked his whip above their heads.Fairos finally appeared on the gate wall above Leinad with an air of authority and arrogance. Keston, the captain of the guards, and five of his men appeared in the gate below a moment later.“Tell me, sir!” Fairos shouted. “Who is it that insults me with his presence and an absurd message from a make believe king?”Leinad sat tall upon Freedom. “My name is Leinad, and I come by the authority of the King and by the might of His sword. I do not wish for harm to fall upon you or any of your men. Hear the words of the King: ‘Let My people go!’” Fairos did not move or respond, but the people did. An audible rumble of voices flowed like a wave around the castle. Keston responded too. Leinad had humiliated Keston before his own men. His anger was obvious. He drew his sword and advanced with the five guards. Partway to the drawbridge, Fairos spoke.“Hold, Keston!” He paused. “Well, you certainly are not a nobleman, but rather a slave with no name in Nyland.” “I am no slave, but I am a servant…a servant of the one true King and His people,” Leinad said.By now all labor had ceased, and most of the castle guards were on the wall or exiting the gate below to see the activity beyond.“Kill him, Keston!” Fairos commanded.Keston and the five guards resumed their advance toward the drawbridge. Leinad dismounted on the far side of the bridge and drew his sword. When Keston reached the bridge, he halted his men. “Stay here–I will finish him myself!” he said.Leinad walked onto the drawbridge toward the castle. Keston’s gait was sharp and full of fury. The two met near the middle of the bridge, and Keston did not break his stride or offer the greeting of mutual respect normally exchanged before such a fight.Keston’s sword struck first with intense aggressiveness. Although Leinad had seen Keston train and fight, he had learned from his father never to underestimate his opponent. He parried Keston’s barrage of cuts and slices and studied him. Keston’s frustration became increasingly obvious as he attacked with combination after combination against an opponent whose defense was flawless. Leinad matched Keston’s speed and power while he held his ground.“I have no quarrel with you, Keston,” Leinad said. “It is Fairos I must face.”“You will only face Lord Fairos on your back after I am through with you, bleeding and dying at his feet!” Keston said in a rage. “That sword will belong to me once and for all!”“Very well, Keston. The choice is yours.”Leinad deflected Keston’s last offensive cut, and his last cut it was, for Leinad began an advance that brought gasps from the onlookers. With increasing speed and power,Leinad’s sword sliced through the air faster than Keston could counter. With each break in Keston’s defense, Leinad made precision cuts in his flesh. First, the tip of Leinad’s sword cut through Keston’s left shoulder–then his right thigh–then his abdomen. Within a moment, Keston was bleeding from a dozen places, but his sword arm was still whole. Leinad’s dominance was obvious, and Keston was growing weak from exhaustion and loss of blood. His rage turned to submission and defeat. In a last-chance effort, Keston tried to deflect a chest high cut and lunged forward with a thrust at Leinad’s chest. Leinad easily parried the thrust to his left and executed a powerful bind on Keston’s sword that forced it from his grip. Without a sword and bleeding from all over his body, Keston fell to his knees before Leinad with his arms open wide.“Have mercy, Leinad,” Keston pleaded. “My life is in your hands.”Just then Fairos, full of rage, broke through the crowd and started across the drawbridge.Leinad stood before Keston with his sword pointed at Keston’s chest. “As I said, Keston, I have no quarrel with you. Swear that you will raise no sword against me or the King’s people, and you shall live.” “I swear–”A sword cut through his chest from behind.“You have disgraced me and all of Nyland!” Fairos withdrew his sword from Keston’s body. “No one does this to Lord Fairos and lives!”Keston fell to the ground and died. Leinad stepped back in horror, amazed that Fairos was capable of such ruthlessness to one of his own. Fairos raised his sword to Leinad with hatred in his eyes.“You are a worthless slave, and I will dispense with you once and for all.”The last time Leinad had fought Fairos, he’d faced death at the edge of Fairos’s sword. But that was before he met the King. This time was different, and so was Leinad. His sword belonged to the King, and so did his mission. He remained silent and prepared himself for the fight, for he knew that Fairos had shut his ears to words. The two men engaged each other. Both were extremely skilled–both were very aware of the other’s mastery. Fairos’s arrogance was obvious, and he made an offensive advance as if to probe Leinad’s abilities. The swords screamed through the air, steel to steel. Fairos brought a powerful slice across Leinad’s torso. Leinad met the sword with the flat of his blade and countered with a quick cut across Fairos’s chest. Fairos could not regain protection with his sword in time and jerked his body backward to escape the deadly edge of Leinad’s blade. Seeing that Fairos was off balance, Leinad brought another slice from the right. Fairos pulled his sword across his body to meet Leinad’s sword, but the force of impact was too much to counter, and the razor sharp edge of Leinad’s sword cut into Fairos’s left shoulder. Fairos did not flinch from the pain, and the wound did not appear to be deep. He paused and glared at Leinad and then at the blood trickling down his arm. Leinad knew that Fairos had been victorious against many mighty enemies, but he saw something in Fairos’s expression that he had never seen before–fear.Leinad allowed Fairos his moment of reflection and was thankful for a break to regain his breath and his composure. He was strained but not exhausted. The King had not only trained him beyond mastery, but had conditioned him as well. The few times Leinad had fought outside of training, he had dealt with fear himself. Now, however, there was no fear within him. He was not fighting for his life; he was fighting for the King and for the people. He carried the mission, the sword, and the skill of the King with him.By now the people watching from the castle and all the other onlookers were nearly still, watching two masters fight to the death. Those on the fringes of the scene were compelled to draw closer. From the heights of the castle gate wall, Lady Fairos and her son watched with apprehension. “Kill him, Father! Kill him!” the boy screamed.Leinad readied himself for the next engagement. “The King demands the freedom of His people,” Leinad said sternly. “Release them and no one will die.”“You are a fool to believe that I would give you that which has made me great,” Fairos said.Fairos attacked with renewed fury, as a warrior fighting for his life and his reputation. The sound of the clashing swords rang out over the silence of the awestruck crowd. The fight moved from one side of the drawbridge to the other.Leinad became more aggressive and advanced relentlessly on Fairos until he was nearly off the castle end of the drawbridge. Both men were beginning to tire, but Fairos’s fight began to look desperate. He returned an aggressive combination to put Leinad in retreat. As Leinad moved back, he stumbled over Keston’s body and fell backward onto the drawbridge decking. Fairos, seeing an opportunity to finish the fight, brought a two-handed cut from above his head down toward Leinad, who was lying faceup. Leinad rolled to the side. Fairos’s blade tore into the wood of the decking, just missing Leinad’s shoulder.Leinad’s rolling maneuver threw him off the drawbridge, and he was just able to stop his plunge into the moat by grabbing the edge with his left hand. He kept his grip on his sword, knowing that Fairos would be on him in an instant. He placed his sword and right hand on the deck of the drawbridge to lift himself, but Fairos slammed his foot down on the flat blade of Leinad’s sword, pinning it to the deck. Leinad looked up into the sneering face of Fairos.“Well, slave, it looks like you have failed again. I am king here. Your death will be my proclamation!”Fairos raised his sword to deal his final blow to Leinad. In an instant, Leinad used his left elbow as leverage and pulled with all his might to yank the sword from beneath Fairos’s foot. The smooth steel of the blade slid easily on the decking. Fairos’s foot slid forward with the blade, and he fell backward onto the drawbridge near its edge. Leinad threw his sword on the drawbridge and swung his body away from Fairos and onto the decking. Fairos was preoccupied with keeping himself from falling into the moat, which allowed Leinad enough time to reach his sword. When the scrambling was over, the two men once again faced each other. The fight wore on, the two swords a relentless blur. The onlookers continued to assemble and position themselves for a better view.Leinad drove the fight hard, and Fairos could only defend and retreat. The endurance of the prime of youth, the masterful training of the King, and the sword of deliverance overcame the ruthlessness of a battle experienced warrior and his arrogance. Leinad’s continual barrage of powerful and precisely placed cuts eventually drove Fairos to the ground and onto his back. His sword was still in hand, but there was no more fight in him. With one final massive crosscut, Fairos’s sword was blown from his grip. It skidded across the drawbridge and plunged into the murky waters of the moat below. The mighty Lord Fairos lay helpless before his “slave.” Both men were breathing hard, and sweat poured from their faces.“I will not plead for mercy like Keston, slave,” Fairos said with disgust between breaths.Leinad stood over Fairos with the shining blade of his sword aimed at Fairos’s chest. “Let the people go, Fairos,” Leinad commanded.“I will never let them go. You will have to kill me!”Leinad looked at the guards, overseers, and slaves–all stunned, waiting for his action. He didn’t want any more bloodshed. If he killed Fairos, the loyal guards could turn the scene into a massacre of the slaves. He needed Fairos to order the release of the people. It would be the only peaceful way to free them. He looked down at Fairos and stared into his eyes.“No, Fairos, I will not kill you. I will do something far worse than that to you. I will let you live. You will live with the shame that a lowly slave on a mission from the King defeated you.” He withdrew his sword and held it high in the air. He turned and faced the people.“People of Nyland!” he shouted. “Let it be known that by the might of the King’s sword, mighty Fairos was defeated. I challenge Fairos to another contest tomorrow. If he defeats me, I will serve as a slave under his hand until my heart beats no more. If I am victorious, let this be proof that the King reigns and that He will bring judgment upon you for enslaving His people.”Leinad sheathed his sword and glared at Fairos once more. “If there is any honor left in you, meet me here tomorrow.”“I will meet you and kill you, slave!” Fairos said.Leinad walked past him to his horse, Freedom. TESS HAD BEEN WITH A large procession of slaves returning with a new load of bricks for the castle when she first saw the crowd gathered about the drawbridge. As the slave caravan moved closer, Tess watched the last sequence of the fight between the two men and sensed something familiar about one of them, even from a distance. She tried to move faster, but the nearest overseer detained her. Her mind dared not think the impossible, but she could not quench the hope rising within her heart. For weeks she had mourned the death of Leinad. Then, when he spoke to the crowd, she felt as though her stomach flipped within her. She broke from the other slaves and ran toward the drawbridgedespite the severe punishment she knew she would receive. The mere thought that her dearest friend might still be alive was all she needed to abandon caution and seek out the truth.Leinad had finished speaking as she passed Barak at the head of the slave caravan.“Leinad!” she called.Barak released the coils of his whip and unleashed a vicious lash toward her back. “Back in line, slave!” he bellowed as the tip of his whip tore into her back.Tess screamed and fell to the ground in pain. Barak took a couple steps forward to execute more punishment, but Leinad heard her call and her scream. He drew his sword and quickly covered the distance between them.Barak’s whip split the air again, racing to tear more flesh on Tess’s back. Leinad precisely crosscut with his sword just above her head and cleanly severed one-third of Barak’swhip. Leinad slowed his approach but continued toward Barak with the wrath of a protective tiger. No one around challenged or stopped him, for he had just beaten the bestswordsman in all of Nyland.Barak retreated a few steps, then pulled back what remained of his whip and directed a lash toward Leinad this time. Leinad sliced the next third off the whip. Barak threw what remained of his whip at Leinad and fell back against a cart full of bricks.“Stop him!” Barak yelled to the other overseers, but they did not move.Leinad closed in on Barak and pressed the tip of his sword into the fat of Barak’s neck. He glared into Barak’s pale white face with fire in his eyes. Barak looked like a frightened cornered rat.“Many slaves have died at your evil hands, Barak,” Leinad said. “If you ever harm another slave, I will hunt you down and bring justice by the edge of my sword. I swear it!”Leinad turned back to Tess. She was already on her feet and running to him. She leapt and hugged him with both arms locked around his neck.“Hello, Sunshine,” he said, gently returning her embrace.“I thought you were dead,” she said tearfully, still clinging to his neck.“So did I. But the King brought me back.”She stepped back and looked into his face as if to reassure herself that he was real.“Let’s get out of here, Tess,” he said, and they walked to Freedom.Just before they mounted, Leinad saw Fairos walk over to Keston’s body, pick up his sword, and return to the castle. The humiliation he had just experienced seemed to fuel his anger with every step. When he reached his guards across the drawbridge, he stopped and pointed to one of them.“You! Draw your sword!”The guard hesitantly drew his sword, and Fairos attacked him. The guard defended himself as best he could, but Fairos quickly ran him through, and he fell dead at Fairos’s feet. Fairos pointed to another.“Draw your sword!” he commanded.Again, another fell. Then another, until all of his guards cowered before him. He threw Keston’s sword to the ground and pointed toward Leinad.“I am Lord Fairos! Tomorrow he dies! Double the work shifts of all slaves!” Fairos turned and entered the gates of his castle.Leinad mounted Freedom and pulled Tess onto the horse behind him. “Have faith, people!” he called. “The King will set you free. Have faith!”Leinad took Tess to the sanctity of the countryside to let her taste freedom once again…at least for a day.

I did not know what to expect from Chuck Black book. Biblical allegories are often lame and you get the feeling the author is trying too hard to make a point. That is not the case here. These books are fun to read. Chuck Black is the author of many novels including the popular Kingdom Series and The Knights of Arrethtrae series. Each story is strong enough to stand on its own. I have 10 kids, and each of the readers enjoy the books. Even kids who are not familiar with the different Bible stories will still be on the edge of their seats. My wife has read all of them aloud. Our children are familiar with Bible stories, and they "get" what is going on. It adds another whole level of interest as they try to link the story they are hearing with the stories they already know. But, that usually happens after each episode, since some of the segments are so tense they are completely lost in the story. Then, after reading to them we hear "Please! One more chapter!" This is a refrain I hear nearly every night.

Chuck Black's "Kingdom Series" is an enthralling mix of fantasy and historical fiction. Set in a medieval world called Arrethtrae, Black's novels retell biblical events in a compelling manner.Continued from "Kingdom's Dawn," this next installment involves eighteen-year-old Leonard freeing "The King's" people from ruthless Lord Pharross. After the people have journeyed to the land of Chesington and established a city, they promise to uphold "The King" and his Code. However, treachery and pride, as well as the ongoing struggle against Lucius, "The Dark Knight," threaten to destroy "The King's" plans. The final climactic battle will leave you breathless! Retelling the events of Exodus, the story of Elijah, and Israel's exile to Babylon, the author presents a marvelous tale about steadfastness and faith in the midst of peril. The audio version is magnificent. Andrew Turley and Dawn Marshall once again read with great expression. Each character is easy to recognize, and the stirring music and sounds set the stage. The author once again emphasizes the spiritual struggles we daily encounter. His faithful characters provide us all with wonderful examples to emulate. Happy listening, and God bless!

Be sure to look in the back after each chapter beacuse there are questions and further back are the answers. These questions help guide your children into a conversation about how the story is representing events in the Bible. The questions assume you know the major events in the Bible. There are also questions asking how the situation in the chapter is like anything in your own life. Both kinds are great for beginning meaningful conversations with someone.I read this series to my 10 & 13 year old. They LOVE it! --especially my boy. I personally would not read this to younger children. They would miss the point of the allegory and the story has some intense fighting scenes. Their is a male and female main character, but there has been no romance.

My boys (11 & 12) love this series! It was recommended through a homeschooling webinar for reading material for boys. I have been reading them during our aloud together reading time, it's perfect for that or on their own. We have thoroughly been enjoying them and have even caught daddy secretly listening and enjoying the story.

I love the fact my young teen is engroused in fictional depiction of the Great Controversy between light and darkness founded in the scriptures. He is bombarded day after day with enticements to pursue dark fantasy in video games, TV, movies, commercials, etc... Now he goes to school and shares with the other kids how "cool" Kingdoms Dawn is, a saga of hope and light, and that they should try it! It's a great mental excercise to help boys cope with their own feelings of violence, fantasy, and conquest yet cultivate that experience within a well developed paradigm of chivalry and love. I also really enjoy the well produced audio cd's for trips in the car... wish they had an MP3 version!

Wonderful book series. Very enjoyable for the whole family.

Great adventure book -- my son is 12 and an avid reader. He finished the book in one day (I'd like the book to "last longer"). In spite of it being a quick read, he found it to be exciting and wants the whole series now.

This is a wonderful series. Recommend!

Now that I've made a few recipes from this book I can post a review. The book itself is well made, and I love the large pictures of each recipe. I also appreciate the other tidbits of information other than recipes found in the book! I recently made 4 of the recipes and each was relatively easy to prepare, didn't take much prep time, and tasted delicious! I have no doubt in my mind that I will eventually use every recipe in the book! Definitely recommend purchasing if you're interested.

Since going paleo, my health has dramatically improved! This book has helped me vary my diet. I totally agree with how people decide to go paleo and then wonder - what do I eat now? This book takes out all the guess work. I was gluten free before and could not find a decent pizza crust recipe. I was certain that going paleo would make it impossible to ever eat good pizza again. Wrong! The book was worth buying just for the pizza crust recipe alone!

I am not strictly a paleo dieter, but I am trying to integrate the principles into my diet while still eating many of the foods that I enjoy and so far this book has offered me great recipes for delicious comfort foods that are healthy and hearty, easy to cook, and fun to eat. I made the pumpkin chili, which was quick and easy, used readily available quantities of canned tomatoes, chilies, etc. I also made the broccoli salad, which is simple and fast, but a good way to mix up my major broccoli addiction. I also tried a couple of the desserts: brownies (which are on the cakey side, but rich without being too sweet) and the caramelized banana milkshake which was super rich and satisfying (I couldn't finish the whole thing). On the whole, this is a great go to book for yummy food that follows paleo principles but is still satisfying to someone who is new to the principles of a paleo diet.

I've been a fan of Health-Bent.com since I ran into them on Pinterest oddly enough. I bought the book on my Kindle, which was not the best option as it's hard to follow. I downloaded the Kindle app to my laptop and it's a much better experience that way. So at least I didn't waste my money. The words and pictures, and especially recipes are much easier to follow.I know there are some issue with the fact that it's not 100% Paleo, but that's okay with me. I'm in good shape and healthy and an occasional "gluten-free" item is alright in my book. I mean even Robb Wolf mentions about eating nachos with tortilla chips and if you're going to cheat make it super tasty, and super bad for you, because "Paleo is not a religion" people. Well guess what, this book has some super tasty "cheat meals" that don't destroy my stomach and I love them for providing super tasty alternatives. If you know you're sensitive to something, just avoid it or doctor it more, be smart. The recipes are low on ingredients and high on taste which is also a plus in my book.

I am so excited about my new cookbooks! One reviewer said, they had too many pictures in the cookbook, & they were paying for recipes, not pictures. I just wanted to say, I like pictures in my cookbooks, because it makes you want to make that certain thing. I can't stand a cookbook without pictures! These cookbooks are beautiful & nicely done! Keep up the good work! I just got mine & I already have recipes picked out to make. 8-)

This book is GREAT. The recipes are DELICIOUS and pretty easy to follow. The only struggle is finding some of the "weirder" ingredients. Even in a pretty diverse grocery market such as Phoenix, AZ, I'm finding that some of these ingredients need to be ordered online. No biggie though. The photos of the food are beautiful and my husband and I have loved every recipe we've tried. We follow the primal lifestyle but are not militant about it. This book or recipes really helps to curb some of those comfort food cravings. A+

Even though I'm not 100% Paleo, I really like a lot of the recipes in this book. It was nice to have some alternatives for less healthier foods. As with all recipes some of them serve as starting point. For instance, I made the the Barbacoa Pot Roast which was very promising but didn't turn out as I had hoped only because my oven may be different than others. I followed the recipe verbatim but there just wasn't enough liquid to justify the 5-6 hour cooking time because my onion/carrot base was dried and burnt. Luckily the meat was still viable and tender and I made an onion aus jus that saved the meal. So far that was the only "issue" I had as other recipes worked quite well. Overall I am pleased with this cookbook and I frequently use their health-bent website as a go-to for meal planning. Keep up the good work!!

Beautifully executed book, interesting recipes: some new and unique, some you've seen elsewhere.I was a bit disappointed in the amount of recipes relying on dairy (we have several w/ milk allergies in the family) with which subbing wasn't possible/practical.Best recipe EVER- Paleo or traditional- is the Thai Turkey Meatballs. Holy guacamole, I made it on a Tuesday and (encore!) again on Thursday… it's that amazing. Crazy sounding combo of peach jam (I used apricot) with cilantro and a vinegar-based glaze? Even our young kiddos raved.

This was a great guidebook to bring on my recent trip to St. Petersburg for suggestions for activities/sights, food, shopping, and getting around. I read the Eyewitness and the Rick Steves' guides before I left too, and LP was by far the most comprehensive and practical. I found my own hotel online, but the book(s) was really useful for dining and for planning my time. Unless you're hiring a guide or audio guides to explain the museums and sights, I suggest also purchasing the Rick Steves' snapshot guide that covers St. Petersburg. He does an unmatched job of explaining what you see in an engaging way. If you're only visiting the one city, consider doing the digital download, so that you're not carrying around a second book the whole time just for like 90 pages or so of content.St. Petersburg is a fantastic city, and I loved my 3-day fall visit there! Top things were Hermitage, Russian Museum, Church on Spilled Blood, ballet at old Mariinsky. No time for the palaces outside the city, but they're also not as worth doing outside the warmer months.

Not nearly as good as the Rick Steve's "Snapshot" of St Petersburg, Helsinki, and Tallinn, even though it cost more, and is more than twice as many pages in a larger page size (more words per page). That is 240 pages vs 120 pages for Rick Steve's. However, it does provide more details than Rick Steves, and more options for the more adventurous traveler. I have been to St Petersburg twice already, and can actually use these extra details. For the first time visitor, buy this book for background reading AFTER you plan your trip using the Rick Steve's book. This version (I also bought this in 2012, and 2014 for my trips) unfortunately shows the signs of truly bad editing. For example, this book is published in 2015, but refers to the St Petersburg Times website as a reference, even though the St Petersburg Times stopped publishing in 2014. It is unclear how many other nasty surprises are hidden until you go there and the restaurant is not there, or has moved, or the trains run differently. Russia is absolutely not France or Germany and there is a lot of economic turbulence: things change fast due to whatever the political crises of the day happens to be, whether low oil prices, military actions, sanctions of various kinds, and so on. This book more than most needs to be kept up-to-date, but it doesn't seem to be. In addition, one of the things travelers need very much is a laundry facility outside simply paying the hotel $100 to wash your clothes. Rick Steve's points out the location and name of the closest downtown laundry chain, which I have used extensively, but I have yet to find any info about laundry in this Lonely Planet guide. Also, the index is rather poorly laid out: you have to look through 6 different indexes, not one.Nevertheless, this is a useful book to plan your trip. But there are enough big holes in this guide that you MUST GET the Rick Steve's book.

We lived by this book and Duolingo alone. It was incredibly helpful for planning and enjoying our 5 days in St. Petersburg. We saw Swan Lake, we ate wonderful food, we learned about the history, we witnessed amazing art, we went to Dostoyevsky's neighborhood, and we gazed on the waters that make the city flow with generous people, strength and courage through time. This book is essential for your trip! GO! It's wonderful!

Somewhat helpful - I wanted more specific recommendations which is why I like the Rick Steves guides. but it did help inform my trip.

I went to St Petersburg o my own and book gave great tips. Even though I have traveling apps I learned some tips about the culture to avoid any mistakes.

Excellent , like all Lonely Planets.

Very informative

A very flavorful look at what really makes this unique city tick.

This is a great read, and it has a lot of must-know information and useful techniques for anyone who rides a motorbike on the highway, especially the scenic curvy byways that motorcyclists love. Much of its content I had already learned from a combination of other motorcycle books, an advanced motorcycle course that I took, and my own experiences on motorbikes, but this book puts it all together in a readable way.

I've been riding for decades, but this book refreshes my skills. It'll go on my book shelf for re-reading in the future.

This book is for the sport touring enthusiast who seriously wants to ride not only better but safer as well. I found it an interesting read and helpful in improving skills on those ever challenging mountain twisties. The author describes riding technique intermixed with personal experiences of his motorcycling history. An ex-pilot, the author makes several analogies between flying and motorcycling.

I like the information in this book. It is a good refresher for me.

Very good book, it was very enjoyable to read.

This is the best how to ride book I have ever read and I have read alot of them. Jim's lessons are set in the real world and not race track oriented. Very readable and entertaining too. Most importantly, I know I'm a better rider.

Understanding the true art of riding my motorcycle took my riding to a whole new level. Jim knows how to speak to the rider in a way that allows your riding to evolve into shear pleasure. A must read!

Nice book. A good, easy read that includes potentially helpful instruction and can catalyze constructive self-evaluation of riding skills and habits.

Don't get me wrong, three stars doesn't mean this book isn't any good, its just my personal way of grading. 3 1/2 stars would be closer, "It's okay and I liked it". I would recommend reading to any who enjoy true crime. I'm not as excited about juror accounts and/or author recreations of what happened in the courtroom as I prefer a story, a novel form of true crime. The book was well written and kept my interest throughout. The only thing I want to say as to any sort of criticism and I wouldn't call it that so much as something that simply became aggravating, is every day & every time someone stood up to speak, or sat on the witness stand, I'd have to read about the clothes they were wearing; after awhile it became absurd. I understand at first, to set a story in the beginning, but every moment of every day, what the prosecutor wore, the defense, the co-counsels, the judge (under his robes) the bailiff, the witnesses, etc. I was curious myself as to the pink handcuffs and can see why Sanders asked about those, but ironically it still falls into the category of fashion. I can't help but picture Mr. Sanders taking notes in the courtroom every day about what each person was wearing; the notes must have been enormous...it made me laugh at first, then I just started skipping the outfits... lolAlso, I think it was a juror who likened Michele Anderson to "A Beautiful Mind" in comparison to her mental problems, however, in no way was she like John Nash who won a Nobel prize in economic theory; Sanders was no doubt simply relating conversational events but it seems like a notation would have been made that there's no comparison between Michele Anderson & John Nash of the biography A Beautiful Mind.

I debated about how many stars to rate this book because I liked it but found the frequent descriptions of who was wearing what unimportant to the story and seemed like fluff-filler material. As a fan of true crime books and knowing of this horrible family masacre, I was interested in how the jurors felt, what they were thinking and how being a major part of this trial affected them. However, Mr. Sanders appeared more like a member of the gallery. I was very impressed with Judge Ramsdel's patience with the constant outbursts and interruptions from the gal who claimed she was protected Ms. Anderson's rights for the appeal process. The epilogue at the conclusion of this book was very confusing. An epilogue is supposed to be comments about what happened or a kind or "wrap-up" to the story. In this case it was an imaginery scenario with the 6 murder victims and it made little sense to this reader.

12/24/2007, Michele Kristen Anderson (Judy/Wayne’s daughter) & Joseph McEnroe (Michele’s BF), home for an evening dinner, shot/killed her parents: Judy Anderson (61, wife/mother, US postal carrier), & Wayne Anderson (60, husband/father, retired Boeing engineer).Scott Anderson (32, Michele’s brother, husband/father, construction), Erica Anderson (32, wife/mother), & their 2 children: Olivia Anderson (5) & Nathan Anderson (3) arrived shortly to the parents, grandparents’ house; never again would they return to their own home.Warning: This book is for adults only & contains extreme violent or graphic adult content. It may be offensive to some readers.I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one.A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written true crime book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great movie, or better yet a mini TV series or even a documentary (True Crime; American Crime Story; Investigative Discovery). A very easy rating of 5 stars.Thank you for the free author; EBooksdaily; CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform; Amazon Digital Services LLC.; bookTony Parsons MSW (Washburn)

Perhaps it is that the author is away from his home. Perhaps it is worth noting that he didn't remind everyone on EVERY page that he had been a juror in another trial........but I found this book a lot better than his previous books. The author still has a weird thing about reporting tie colors, but other than that, I think he brought out the flavor of the trial very well.

I am delighted to see important cases discussed from a jurors point of view. After all, jurors make the decisions whether or not to convict, sometimes they decide punishment...yet we hear almost nothing about this crucial part of our legal system in true crime books. Why is that.I'm going to be looking for books by this author in the future.

This is an excellent job showing the readers what it's like to be a juror. I have never thought of all the emotions people are put through when they are chose to make a decision on how someone is to be punished due to their crime . Excellent read for people who like true crime and also an excellent book for anyone .

Not what I expected. I learned a few things in the forensic science segments, but the description of what each of the attorneys, jurors, and witnesses was wearing each and every day was just way, way too much. It was unnecessary and boring. IF the author continues writing, I hope he hires a competent editor or, at the very least, a proofreader. It might help. Then again......

A heartbreaking story, written with clarity, compassion and attention to detail. This is yet another book by Paul Sanders that did not disappoint. The reader is transported to the court room, and feels like they are viewing this firsthand.

I have been an inconsistent student of A Course in Miracles for 20 years. I say "inconsistent" because although I love the principles, so much of the text seems impenetrable and downright confusing. Alan Cohen's groundbreaking "A Course in Miracles Made Easy" beautifully illuminates the text, providing clarity for both new and long-time Course students. And for those who can't get through the Course, don't give up--this book will give you all you need. Many will also find renewed enthusiasm for re-reading the Course (I did), because it no longer seems so daunting. I also felt tremendous inner peace while reading "ACIM Made Easy"-- the whole point of ACIM. Unlike much of the Course (which tends to be deliberately circuitous), this book is clear and direct. If you want to feel lighter and more in love with you life, give it a try. You may even experience a miracle.

I never write reviews, but this book saved my life. My brain was so bogged down with hard things that had happened to me over the past few years that I could not think straight. Alan Cohen's interpretation of A Course in Miracles gives you a way out of emotional pain and helps you understand how to get your life back from experiences that have been mentally crushing. I read it over and over.

I just finished this and it was a joy to read. Alan Cohen made the key premises of ACIM simple and clear. I also ordered the workbook as he suggested and find I am eager and ready to do the exercises each morning. In terms of humankind's beliefs, the premises (promises??!) of the text are a radical and uplifting shift from the drugery of "success" that leaves most everyone feeling so empty and lost. A few examples of some of them are: You are whole and holy, not a problem to be fixed. There is nothing you need obtain or do to "deserve" happiness and health, in fact, it is your birthright and your normal state. Your health depends ONLY on the health of your mind. You are always forgiven for EVERYTHING, in fact, there was never anything to forgive. RADICAL departure right??? Reading these ideas lifted my heart and brought a profound sense of peace. I imagine there will be quite a few people that will. at the very least, question some of these thoughts and THAT IS GOOD, and some will resist these ideas entirely (i.e. Illness is only brought on from the way you think might push quite a few buttons especially if you are ill) however just opening your mind to entertain these ideas cracks open your mind and heart and that's the idea...God and Grace swoop in anytime there is an opening, however slight. I would love to live in a world where these words were truth with a capital"T" and judging from the eagerness of my heart while reading this book, I believe they are.

A quick read (especially compared to ACIM). I am reading ACIM slowly but surely. I didn't want to just plow through it, but this intro book allowed me to feel like I got the gist of it while I work my way through ACIM over a longer period of time. It's easy to understand and seems to hit the high notes. Really enjoy the writer's perspective and synthesis.

A Course in Miracles, made easy, is a companion book for the ACIM (A Course in Miracles), the self-study spiritual-thought system that teaches the way to love and forgiveness. For many, the original ACIM text is obscure and cryptic, leading author Alan Cohen to joke, “ACIM is the only book that has been purchased by millions, but only read by a few.”I am new to Mr. Cohen’s teaching, discovering him through his show on Hay House Radio, where he discussed his book. Cohen is an excellent teacher, a concise writer and wonderful storyteller. He weaves witty personal stories throughout his illumination of the Course’s principles, making the material much more easy to digest than the text.If you are interested in understanding the concepts of A Course in Miracles, or just looking for more inner peace, then I recommend this wonderful, easy to read and beautifully written book.

Loved this book. It's full of wonderful reasons why it's great to be on this planet. We have so much to be grateful for! It also is a great reminder that we all have the choice to make every decision based out of love or out of, fear. Choose love and life will be more joyous. Love, love, love! It certainly isn't the easiest thing to do all the time but when you do it, it sure makes a big difference.

for many years I have tried understanding A Course in Miracles--extremely frustrating!!!! This book was a total delight to read- and lightbulbs kept going off in my head leading my to finally understand why so many people are in love with ACIM! I loved all the stories Mr Cohen used in hisstorytelling--and most of all, just thoroughly enjoyed the journey of reading this......Thank you so much Mr Cohen- well done

I've been putting aside A COURSE IN MIRACLES for years; its tedious to say the least! This book (The course made easy) is phenomenal!!! I couldn't put it down. So, NOW, I'm devouring the course starting with THE WORKBOOK as suggested. FANTASTIC!!! Do yourself a favor...buy it!
